Braham boys clinch 8th straight GRC crown

Boys Basketball: Bluejackets fall twice in OT

With Coach Bob Vaughan recuperating at home after a recent hospital stay, the Bomber boys stepped up to win their past three games, including knocking off host Isle 87-41 Feb. 22 to clinch at least a share of their eighth straight Great River Conference championship.

Tyler Vaughan scored 23 and Ben Thiry 22 in the victory as the two combined for 5 three-pointers. Cameron Braund helped out with 15 points and 5 rebounds. More leading points came from Anthony Bias (8) and Drew Klemz (6).

On Feb. 18, the Bombers reached the 20-win mark for the 14th straight year after downing visiting Rush City 77-42. Tyler Vaughan hit 4 three-pointers to lead with 32 points, adding 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Erik Vavra added 14 points and 6 steals, with Ben Thiry tossing 7 assists.

“We shot really well in the first half against Rush. We had a little lull in the second half when the Tigers cut the lead to 20, then we scored three straight three-point plays to pull away,” described Coach Vaughan, who needs to clear the blood clots which are ailing him before he can return courtside. “I can’t say enough about the job our assistant coaches Jeff (Eklund) and Chris (Vavra) are doing with the team.”
