“Oh! The Places You’ll Go” is the Dr. Seuss theme for the Reach Out and Read second annual fundraiser.

Everyone is invited to celebrate literacy at a complimentary tea/Dr. Seuss birthday party. This fun-filled event will be held on March 2 at 2 p.m. at Riverwood Village (909 So. Dellwood, Cambridge). Raffle tickets are now being sold and the first prize is a beautiful quilt with a Dr. Seuss theme. The quilt may be seen at Scout and Morgan Books. Local quilters Karin Barfknecht and Penni Hergert have donated their time and skill to sew this first prize and Mary Bird provided an embroidered title panel. The second prize is a huge children’s book basket library and third prize is a $50 gift certificate to Scout and Morgan Books. Other wonderful prizes will be available at the tea.

The Reach Out and Read committee consists of 12 volunteer members with Chris Miller serving as the volunteer coordinator. This committee keeps the book bins filled in the doctor’s offices, reads to pre-schoolers, monitors the book baskets in the waiting rooms, and supports the importance of early literacy.

You can help promote literacy in the community by buying a raffle ticket ($5 or 3/$10) at the Cambridge Medical Center Gift Shop, Scout & Morgan Books, from a Reach Out and Read committee member, or at the Reach Out and Read complimentary tea. You need not be present to win.
