Girls hockey playoffs this week

Bluejackets head to top-seed Elk River Feb. 10 for opener

The march to the Minnesota Girls Hockey State tourney begins this week when sectional playoffs open.

The Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City squad was seeded 8th in Section 7AA, sending them to top-seed Elk River for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Feb. 10. A Bluejacket victory would have them traveling to the Feb. 12 semifinals at either No. 4 Proctor-Hermantown or No. 5 Duluth.

In the other half of the 7AA brackets, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton was seeded No. 2 (playing No. 7 St. Francis-North Branch in the quarters) and Grand Rapids-Greenway was seeded No. 3 (hosting No. 6 Forest Lake).

The Bluejackets closed the regular season with two losses. On Feb. 4, visiting North Wright County prevailed 7-1, with Shelby Sylvester netting CIMPC’s lone goal.

Then on Feb. 7, visiting Holy Family Catholic notched a goal 3:44 into overtime to tip the Bluejackets 2-1. Elizabeth Hafner had a shut out going for two periods, and Alex Nelson scored the tying goal in the third period for CIMPC.
