Dear Editor:

Cambridge Primary School has many things to be thankful for. We simply could not ask for more supportive, caring families and community.

Every year, Minnco is generous enough to help us make Christmas a little happier for some of our families. The number of families needing some assistance each year continues to grow. By organizing the Angel Tree Program, Minnco makes Christmas a more enjoyable time for these families. This program asks people to donate Christmas gifts for families in need. The community members who take an Angel off their tree and turn it into a wonderful Christmas surprise are much appreciated.

Another example we want to give thanks for is our “Dollars for Jake” fundraiser. We asked our students and families to donate $1 for Jake. Jake is a 4-year-old who is undergoing treatment for brain cancer. We wanted to support his family by donating some cash for gas and parking for those many trips to the hospital. Children went home and shared the story with their parents. Their parents then went to work and shared the story with their co-workers and before we knew it, collections were being taken at work. We knew we had made a difference when one day Jake’s mom said she didn’t feel alone in her struggle any longer.

Lastly, we’ve always benefited from individual families, church groups and community organizations donating school supplies, hat, mittens, boots, snow pants. Each one of you makes our school community stronger.
