Weekend Sports: Royals close in on M-8 title with 6-1 win at Isanti; Gymnast Solbrack wins Bluejacket All-Around; C-I Girls Hoops slips past Hornets 57-56; Cloquet blanks Bluejacket Girls Hockey 3-0
Battling to stay in the Mississippi 8 boys hockey race, Cambridge-Isanti was deadlocked with leader Rogers 0-0 after one period and down just 2-0 after two. But the Royals (7-0, 11-6-1) scored four goals in a five-minute span midway through the final period to defeat the Bluejackets 6-1. The Jackets fall to 3-3-1 in the M-8, 9-9-3 overall.

Solbrack wins Bluejacket All-Around
Senior Anna Solbrack totaled 37.6 points to win her first Bluejacket All-Around title when the Cambridge-Isanti gymnasts hosted their annual individual showcase Jan. 29. Solbrack’s leading events were the Bars (9.5) and Vault (9.35). Teammate Emily Vogelpohl placed 2nd with a 37.2 total, and Nadia Nassif was 5th at 35.75.
C-I Swim 2nd at own Bluejacket Invite
The Cambridge-Isanti boys scored 461 points to place 2nd to Elk River’s 539 points when the seven-team Bluejacket Invite was hosted at the CIHS pool on Saturday.
Cloquet 3, CIMPC Girls Hockey 0
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton broke a 0-0 tie with two second-period goals and went on to shutout the host Bluejackets Saturday evening.
C-I Girls Basketball 56, Big Lake 55
Whitney Olson scored Cambridge-Isanti’s final eight points, including hitting two final free throws, to lift the Bluejackets over the visiting Hornets Jan. 28. Olson finished with 26 points, and Deandra Vavra adde 16 points for C-I.
Braham Girls Basketball 91, Pine City 23
The Bombers improved to 11-0 in the Great River after sweeping the season series with the visiting Dragons Friday night.
