Bombers go to subsection festival with ‘The Letter People’

Greg Hunt

Spelling out the word “ABUSE,” the characters in Braham Theater’s One-Act play “The Letter People” bring a tough subject under the glare of the stage lights for this year’s competitive season.

“‘Letter People’ brings an awareness of all types of child abuse in this play– mental, physical and sexual,” explained senior drama veteran Josh Fike, taking on the challenging role of a pedophile as the Letter S.

Five of characters in the play written by Linda Saren represent terms which begin with letters of the word “abuse”– letters which adorn the backs of those players.

“Most kids don’t like talking about abuse,” speaks the “E” character played by Abby Salmonson.

First-year teacher AnnaRae Schieffer takes on her first directing job at Braham; she performed in theater during her high school days.

The Bomber troupe heads to the 4A North Subsection Festival this Saturday, Jan. 29 at Pine City. Along with Braham and Pine City, competing schools will be Milaca, Mora, Rush City and Zimmerman. The top two performances then advance to the Section 4A Festival hosted Feb. 5 at St. Paul Harding H.S.

The Braham group will also present “The Letter People” during the Braham Talent Show held on Saturday evening, Jan. 29, in the Performing Arts Center.
