Long Lake Ice Fishing Contest  Feb. 5
The Long Lake Improvement Association will host its 2011 Ice Fishing Contest Saturday, Feb. 5 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. (registration begins at 9 a.m.). Held inside a roped off area on Long Lake west of Isanti, cost is $10/pre-drilled hole. Raffle tickets are $1 (need not be present to win raffle prizes). Fishing prizes: $300 largest game fish; $200 Most game fish; $50 Smallest game fish; $50 First bullhead.

Winterfest Event at Sherburne NWR
Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge staff and Friends of Sherburne invite you to attend their annual Winterfest celebration on Saturday, February 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free family event offers an exciting day of outdoor activities celebrating winter and focusing on how both wildlife and people manage to thrive in Minnesota’s months of snow and cold temperatures.

Activities include horse-drawn sleigh rides and snowshoe adventures for both children and adults from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., guided cross-country ski treks at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and on-going scavenger hunt and nature crafts for kids, exhibits on wildlife, animal tracks, winter survival and winter bird feeding. You will be able to warm yourself by a bonfire and enjoy good company while roasting a sweet treat. Also is a silent auction fund-raiser with proceeds supporting refuge programs.

Winterfest parking and event tents will be located south of the Old School House, off Sherburne Co, Rd. 9, 5.5 miles west of Hwy. 169 (watch for signs).
