GRC battle when Braham boys visit EC

Basketball updates: Braham Girls defeat EC, Princeton; Bluejacket Boys rally on Thunder

The midway lead in Great River boys basketball will be up for grabs this Friday night when Braham travels to East Central. Both teams are undefeated in conference games entering this week.

“East Central starts five seniors. This is a championship-calibre game,” noted Bomber Coach Bob Vaughan.

On Jan. 21, Braham defeated host Onamia 81-41 behind Tyler Vaughan’s triple-double (28 points/14 rebounds/10 assists). Ben Thiry scored 18 and added 4 assists, with Cameron Braund scoring 15.

• In a Jan. 22 makeup game at the Breakdown Classic, Holy Family tipped Braham 82-74. Vaughan scored 37, Thiry 21 and Drew Klemz 12.

The Bombers rebounded Jan. 25 with a 81-39 home win over Ogilvie with five players in double-figures: Thiry (19), Vaughan (14), Braund (13), Bret Cuda (12), and Erik Vavra (10).

Braham Girls win two
The Bombers stayed perfect in the GRC with a 95-51 win over host East Central Jan. 20. The balanced attack had Becca Dahlman scoring 26, Hannah Dahlman 17, Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow 16, Liz Anderson 15 and Katie Nickles 10. H. Dahlman doubled with 10 rebounds, and Anderson led with 8 assists.

On Saturday, the team worked through a cold shooting night to defeat host Princeton 69-34. B. Dahlman scored 28 points and H. Dahlman 12 against the Tigers. Sorenson-Giffrow added 11 points and Nickles 10. B. Dahlman grabbed 18 rebounds, and H. Dahlman had 10 boards. Anderson dealt 7 assists and H. Dahlman 6 in the victory.

C-I Boys split games
Rogers owned a 12-point advantage in the second half to pull away from the host Bluejackets 58-42 Jan. 20. Preston Bosacker and Ted Lutterman both scored 16 points to lead Cambridge-Isanti, with Ryan Rosenberg adding 6 points.

On Jan. 25, Cambridge-Isanti overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Zimmerman 77-74. Bosacker paced the offense with 19 points, with Mike Henderscheid scoring 17, Lutterman 12, Rosenberg 11 and Jordan Schleicher 10.
