CIMPC to begin 3-game homestand

Girls Hockey: Bluejackets sweep Princeton with 3-1 win Feb. 25

Taking on former conference member Orono at home, the Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City girls hockey squad was on the short end of a 5-1 game Jan. 21.

The Spartans led 2-0 after one period. The Bluejackets then cut that deficit in half when Holly Guerin scored off a Meghan Eustice pass midway in the second. The Spartans answered back 1:30 later then tacked on two more goals five minutes apart in the third period.

“We had trouble containing their power play; they had very good puck control and always found the open person. They scored four of their five goals on power plays. We got down early, couldn’t stop chasing, and when we chase we also tend to take more penalties,” said CIMPC Coach Jeff McCann.

The Bluejackets begin a three-game homestand Friday night with Rogers, then they host Section 7AA partner in Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Saturday night. Then on Feb. 1, Mound-Westonka comes to town with the metro’s leading scorer Taylor Kuehl (39 G/29 A).
