The Knights doubled up the Jackets’ score at the half and kept rolling for a M-8 win Jan. 18. Leading C-I in points were Ted Lutterman (14) and Ryan Rosenberg (12).
St. Michael-A. 73, C-I Girls 54
The Knights remained undefeated in conference games with a win at CIHS Jan. 18. Pacing the Jacket offense were Deandra Vavra (24), Whitney Olson (17) and Brynn Liljander (9).
"STMA had a quick start to the game getting up 13-3. Deandra Vavra scored the next 5 points to get us back into the game. We got to within two at 17-15, and then they had an 8-0 run and a 17-4 run to bring us to half. We opened up the second half strong with a 10-2 run but were never able to get any closer," noted C-I Coach Jody Ledahl.
"I thought we competed a lot better in the second half. We just aren’t getting defensive stops. and that is putting too much pressure right now on our offense. We stress to our kids that our defense should be the one that helps carry our offense– not the other way around."
C-I Swim 97, Blaine 84
The Bluejackets improved to 28-5 overall this season with a road win Jan. 18. Individual winners included Dylan Maas (200 Free), Jake Berry (200 IM) David Voller (50 Free), Landon Acre-Kendall (100 Butterfly), Jason Codner (100 Free), and Benj Nault-Maurer (100 Backstroke).
"Through these past meets, we are looking at solidifying our lineup for sections– determining who some of those third and fourth entrants in each event will be," said C-I Coach Gary Gotz. "Are usual guys are doing well, but we are having new guys step up, too. Calvin Cicha has really stepped up in the Breaststroke. He had a great race at Blaine and just got touched out for 1st place by a senior swimmer who could be a top contender in Section 7AA. Both Grant and Kyle McCormick have shown us good things in their events."
CCS Boys 55, Valley Christian 39
Peter Maring scored 18 points, with Josiah Scheumann scoring 8 and Jake Bergman 7 in the Warriors’ road win Jan. 18.
