Gloria C. Gimse, 87, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at her home after an extended illness.
Gloria Christine Troolin was born to Andrew and Annie (Larson) Troolin
on March 10, 1923, in Stanchfield, Minn. Gloria graduated from Braham
High School in 1942. Following graduation she worked at East Central
Electric Company in Braham and as a nurses’ aid at the Midway Hospital
in St. Paul before attending Lee’s Beauty School in St. Paul.
After graduation from Lee’s Beauty School in 1944, she worked at Dumont’s House of Beauty and for many years managing the shop. On May 11, 1946, she married Donald (“Peter”) Mattson. Donald passed away March 11, 1984. Gloria married Kermit Gimse on May 26, 1990, in Spicer, Minn.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Kermit; step-daughters Kryss Gimse (fiance Bill Grant) of Willmar, Jeanne Jennum (Richard) of Anoka, Ann Furr (Jeremy) of Jeffersonton, Va., and Deb Hoyt (Jeff) of Otsego; 9 step grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Peterson, Marilyn Johnson, Rose Ann Nickel and Ruth Carlson; many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Gladys Pearson and brother Donald Troolin.
Gloria was a long-time member of the Stanchfield Baptist Church. During her years residing in Paynesville, Gloria and Kerm attended Paynesville Baptist Church. Gloria and Kermit enjoyed traveling and keeping in contact with their many friends and family.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the Stanchfield Baptist Church, Stanchfield, Minn. The Rev. Dale A. Cope will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at the Rice Lake Cemetery, Braham, Minn. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Stanchfield Baptist Church.
