The need for blood is constant. Every day patients in our
communities are helped by blood donors who give blood at blood drives
coordinated by volunteers. The Cambridge community hosted two blood
drives at First Baptist Church Jan. 6-7.

Thursday the goal was 90 and 105 productive units of blood were collected. Friday the goal was 55 and 40 productive units of blood were collected. Volunteer donors receiving special recognition for completion of 1 gallon: Mary Doering, Thomas Krueger, Myron Larson, Erika Standlund and Grant Volker; 3 gallons: Clyde Miller; 4 gallons: Pat Roddy and Jacob Homan; 5 gallons: Peter Leeb; 6 gallons: Patrick Damon, Maureen Grailer, Richard Smith and John Wheelock; 8 gallons: Konnie O’Neil; 10 gallons: Donna Whitney.
Thank you to volunteers who called previous donors to schedule appointments. They include Ruth Becklin, Becky Carlson, Nancy Fromm, Donna Whitney, Sonja Thiry, Marilyn Nold, Laura Hill, Laurie Hoheisel, Susan Olson, Arlene Ringer, Candy Koepp and Nancy Koczur. Also volunteering at the actual blood drives were Maureen Ryan, Lynette Anderson, Roger Anderson, Jeanne Watson, Norma Larson, Shirley McFarlane, Gretchen Sanders, Ev Flanagan, Myrna Hendrickson, Dorothy Nelson, Al Nelson, Sue Points, Sandy Bloomquist, Laurie Hoheisel, Barb Guetschoff, Linda Moline, Becky Carlson, Patrick O’Neil, Konnie O’Neil and Sentence to Serve crew. The blood drives were publicized by local papers, radio stations and businesses by displaying posters. Cambridge Medical Center mailed reminder cards to donors.
The next blood drive in Cambridge will be Monday, March 14 from 1-7 p.m. at the lower level of the American Legion Post 290, 200 2nd Avenue SE, Cambridge. Only type O donors will be actively recruited to schedule appointment, however, donors other blood types will not be turned away if they present at the blood drive.
