Hockey: Bluejackets defeated by M-8 power Riverhawks
The Bluejacket girls won for the fourth time in five outings with a 6-4 effort at Superior, Wis. Jan. 8. Shelby Sylvester scored two goals and had an assist. Solo goals against the Spartans came from Kaity Ripp, Taylor Bowker, Erica Epsen and Alyssa Christenson.
“Being injury free has allowed us to put some line combinations back together, one being Shelby with Alyssa Christenson and Jessie Morrison who accounted for 8 points as a line,” said CIMPC Coach Jeff McCann. “It has also allowed us to have a strong fourth line to use when our top three lines show heavy legs as they did tonight. We rolled all four lines in the second and third period which kept us rested and able to sustain pressure in the offensive end.”
“But the real story of the game was our goalie Elizabeth Hafner. She stopped (Spartan star) Jenna Martin on a penalty shot in the second period and stopped two more complete breakaways during the game. You could just feel the energy go into our team when Elizabeth charged out of her crease to meet Jenna and shut her down,” added Coach McCann.
N.Wright Co. 7, CIMPC 1
The Riverhawks stayed near the top of the M-8 girls hockey standings with a home win over the Jackets. Steph Cannon scored the lone CIMPC goal.
