Arthur Gustav Gabrielson, 93, of Ogilvie, Minn., passed away January 6, 2011 at the Kanabec Hospital in Mora.
Arthur was born June 4, 1917 at home, near Platte, S.D. to Amos and
Hildur Gabrielson. He grew up on the family farm, the third of five
siblings. He attended country school through eighth grade. As a
teenager he came to Minnesota to find work. While working on farms in
the Ogilvie area, he met Lucille Norman and they were married Feb. 14,
1939. To this union were born eight children. Arthur and Lucille lived
in Mora and Ogilvie areas for a number of years. They also lived near
Baudette, Minn. from 1952 to 1961. He owned and operated a farm near
Dalbo, Minn. from 1961 until his retirement in 1977.
During his lifetime he did farming, trucking, and machining. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and photography. He played the guitar, harmonica, accordion and various other instruments. He also sang and wrote a number of his own songs. In their retirement years, he and Lucille spent many of their winters in Texas. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a hard worker and was skilled in many things. His Christian faith was very important to him ever since he had a life-changing conversion in the 1950s. Much of their married life, Arthur and Lucille attended the Evangelical Free Church. His favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Alice, Gunhild and Jennie; and one son Marvin (Charlene), and one granddaughter Kimberly (Bill) Hilliard.
He is survived by his wife Lucille, seven children, Kenneth (Pat) of Mora, JoAnn (Larry) Exline of Springfield Mo., Marlene (Robert) Fread of Pleasanton, Neb., Raymond (Esther) of Isanti, Gerri (Allen) Riesgraf of Plymouth, Minn., Harland of Ogilvie, Jeanette (Randy) Rysdam of Clear Lake, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister Gudron Wilder of Mankato, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 10 at Siloa Lutheran Church in rural Braham, Minn. Rev. Jim Ekbom presided. Music was provided by Ruth Grundyson. Pallbearers were Arthur’s grandchildren; James Gabrielson, Keith Gabrielson, Jason Riesgraf, Scott Gabrielson, Wayne Gabrielson and Karla Ovsak. Interment was at the Siloa Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora, Minn.
