The Isanti Municipal Liquor Store will stay in familiar hands for an interim period until a new manager can be hired.

In the regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 4, the City Council approved additional compensation for Finance Director Kristi Smith and Assistant City Administrator Irene Bauer as they take on liquor store management duties for the time being.

Both Smith and Bauer will receive an additional $4 per hour from the liquor store fund until the position is filled.

When questioned by the council how much time the extra responsibilities require each week, Smith replied, “I would just answer that: a significant amount.”

Mayor George Wimmer supported the measure and sympathized with the interim liquor store managers.

“The first probably two weeks or so it took up a tremendous amount of time—Kristi was living over there for quite some time,” he said. “And this is not a fun period either with the audit coming up.”

The position has been left vacant since early December following the termination of the former liquor store manager over concerns of the stores declining profitability.

City staff took applications for a new full-time manager in December and the council plans to complete interviews with the candidates and hire a replacement within the next two months.

New member added to planning commission

At the meeting the council also interviewed and approved Sean Stevens as a member of the planning commission.

Stevens had previously served on the commission for six years and on the Isanti County Planning Commission for one year.
