Alumni Game this Saturday before Bluejacket vs. Becker-Big Lake match
Going 2-1 at the St. Michael-Albertville Holiday Tourney, Cambridge-Isanti came home with the consolation championship while preparing for the long upcoming stretch of games.
“We stressed going into the conference schedule for the boys to be more physical and create more puck movement. You could tell the kids stepped up, creating more offense off turnovers and being physical to stop the opponents’ offense. We had a good tournament,” said C-I Coach Chad Carlson.
On Dec. 30, the Bluejackets skated to the consolation title by downing Two Harbors 9-4. Zach Heuring and Cody Horbacz notched hat tricks for the Bluejackets. Both Brennan Osen and T.J. Pagel had 3 assists for C-I. Solo goals were added by Josh Klingseisen, Pagel and Kurtis Grimm.
Jared Knutson was called on for just 12 saves against the Agates while the Bluejackets generated 61 shots on net.
C-I 6, Pine City-RC 1
The Dec. 29 consolation semifinals saw the Bluejackets defeating the Dragons 6-1. Grimm and Klingseisen both scored 2 goals. Sam Renier recorded 1 goal & 2 assists, and Knutson made 19 saves in the C-I net.
“It was nice to see a couple other lines scoring for us and getting our defensemen to be more active in the offensive end,” added Coach Carlson. “Sam Renier has really stepped up for us the past couple of weeks.”
Robbinsdale Armstrong 4, C-I 2
The Bluejackets opened the tourney in the Dec. 28 quarterfinals with a 4-2 loss to the Falcons (6-3) who went to defeat the host Knights 4-2 in the championship game. Armstrong led 2-0 before Jordan Locken netted C-I’s first goal in the second period.
Klingseisen scored short-handed for the team’s last goal in the third. Billy Winselman stopped 30 of 34 shots for the Bluejackets.
