Bluejacket girls post third-straight ‘W’

CIMPC Hockey takes Rogers in OT

Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City girls hockey won its third straight game with a 3-2 overtime effort on the road at Rogers.

Alex Nelson got the game-winner when she scored 4 minutes into the extra period off a Stephanie Carlson pass– the team’s lone shot in OT. Jesi Benson earned the win in the CIMPC nets by making 22 saves.

The Royals led 2-0 after one period, then Bluejacket Meghan Eustice got her team on the board 3:31 into the second period, with Kaity Ripp getting the assist. The Bluejackets continued to press hard in the third period– outshooting the Royals 13-7– and Taylor Bowker got the equalizer midway through the period on an unassisted goal.

“We came out and attacked the offensive end in that first period but forgot about our responsibilities in the defensive end, so during the first intermission we emphasized how important it was going to be for all five skaters to play our defensive system,” said CIMPC Coach Jeff McCann. “Any time you put yourself in a hole to start a game and then you fight your way back to pull out a victory, you know you have a team that has leaders and they all believe in each other.”
