Michael P. Callahan, 67, of Cambridge, Minn. died peacefully December 30, 2010 at home after a two year battle with cancer.
ichael Patrick Callahan was born Dec. 21, 1943 in Green Bay, Wis. to
Clayton and Ethyl (Gerard) Callahan. Michael served in the U.S. Air
Force from 1962-1966. On Dec. 28, 1968 he married Mary Schauer in Green
Bay. They moved to Cambridge in 1972 and had four children. He was a
past commander of the Isanti VFW and a VFW life member. He was also a
past commander of the Cambridge American Legion. He loved spending time
with his family and grandchildren, golfing, fishing, traveling and
working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Steve (Beth) Callahan of Cambridge, Patrick (Melissa) Callahan of Cambridge, Erin Callahan of Cambridge, and Ryan Callahan of Minneapolis; one brother, Tom (Cathy) Callahan of Denver; one sister, Mary Pat (Ann Miller) of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Bryce, Braydon, Zachery, Zeb and Emme; and by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Kay.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 5 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cambridge with Father James David Hahn as Celebrant. Greg Kuhn assisted as Liturgist; Tonya Wagner served as organist, and Mary Kuhn and Denise Childress as cantors. Pallbearers were Steve, Patrick, Ryan and Zeb Callahan. Military honors were provided by Howard McCarty American Legion Post 290 of Cambridge. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel.
