Bluejacket boys defend hoops title at Hibbing

Holiday Tourneys: Braham boys take consolation championship at Crusader Classic; Bluejacket Wrestlers 6th at Rumble on the Red; Jacket boys hockey wins consolation finals at SMA Tourney

Ted Lutterman hit 6-of-9 three-pointers and finished with 26 points to lead the Cambridge-Isanti boys basketball past the host Bluejackets 64-59 in the Dec. 30 championship game of the Hibbing Holiday Tourney. The title was C-I’s sixth straight at the annual gathering.

Mike Henderscheid added 12 points and 4 steals, and Preston Bosacker scored 9. Matt Swanson led with 8 rebounds.

Braham Boys 63,  Pierz 58

In the Dec. 30 consolation championship of the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusader Classic tourney, Braham held off the taller Pioneers in a tight battle pitting the former subsection partners against each other. Mandan, ND won the tourney, beating Melrose in the championship.

C-I Wrestlers 6th at Rumble on the Red

The Cambridge-Isanti wrestlers finished 6th out of 56 teams at the Rumble on the Red invitational hosted Dec. 29-30 at the Fargo Dome. Ty Torgerson led the Bluejackets by placing 3rd at 135. Derek Swanson (189) and Clayton Jennissen (171) both placed 4th. Also placing for C-I Cody Skog (6th at 145) and Travis Holt (7th at 140).

C-I Boys Hockey 9, Two Harbors 4

Also Dec. 30, the Bluejacket boys skated to the consolation title at the St. Michael-Albertville Holiday Tourney by downing Two Harbors 9-4. Zach Heuring and Cody Horbacz notched hat tricks for the Bluejackets. Both Brennan Osen and T.J. Pagel had 3 assists for C-I. Solo goals were added by Josh Klingseisen, Pagel and Kurtis Grimm. Jared Knutson was called on for just 12 saves against the Agates.
