Posted Online: 11/5/02

The Refuge Network is a community advocacy program that provides 24-hour crisis intervention and support to victims of domestic violence.

Services are free and confidential to anyone in Isanti, Chisago, and Kanabec counties. They include a 24-hour crisis phone line, safe housing, page after arrest program, assistance with preparation of Orders for Protection and Harassment Restraining Orders, court support for criminal and civil court matters, transportation, support groups, resource and referral, community education, and professional training.

The Refuge Network is looking for volunteers to answer the crisis line from their homes. They also need volunteers to carry the arrest pager and to respond to victims immediately following an arrest for domestic assault. Other volunteer opportunities include safe housing, transportation, court watch, childcare, and office work.

Volunteer training will be h Saturday, Nov. 16, in Cambridge. This will be a six-hour training with an additional six-hour training to be held within the following two weeks, along with an additional eight hours of hands-on advocacy. Once a volunteer becomes active, they also offer ongoing training throughout the year.
