C-I girls 11-U Soccer crowned State Champs after winning shootoutPosted Online: 11/5/02 Congratulations to the Cambridge-Isanti Girls Soccer team on claiming the championship title in Rochester on Sunday, Oct. 20. A combination of team leadership, dedication and determination led to the success of the team all season long as well as in the state tournament. The girls earned their way into the state tournament by capturing the District title in early October. On Saturday the girls came out playing hard against Apple Valley, winning 3-1. An early morning semifinal game was scheduled for Sunday. The girls returned to the field focused and ready to play as they were matched up with a fast and aggressive team from White Bear Lake. Again, the girls came out playing hard. Cambridge-Isanti proved to be a bit quicker, faster, and more aggressive as both the defense and offense met the challenge. C-I advanced to the finals by defeating White Bear 1-0. In the championship game, were Cambridge-Isanti and a very well-matched team from Plymouth. Strong efforts were seen by both teams. The game ended in a 1 -1 tie, sending the teams into a double overtime. Still no score came as both teams kept pursuing the dream of becoming the state champs. Ending in a tie after the double overtime, forced the teams into a shootout. Cambridge-Isanti again proved, under all the pressure, to be true champion as they stopped and scored one more goal than their opponents. Congratulations Jesse, Mary Beth, Courtney, Lindsay, Veronica, Tess, Elizabeth, Danielle, Mandy, Jade, Brianna, Kailee, and Carly. You are indeed true Champions. The team is coached by Dennis Moore and Tammy Blackledge. A big thanks, from the parents to our coaches, for their time, efforts and dedication. Thanks for the opportunity and the experience our girls will never forget. -submitted by Kris Burman ©Isanti County News |
