Riverdance singer/harpist to perform Irish Christmas ConcertPosted Online: 11/12/02 Hauntingly beautiful voice, wonderful Irish harp, Irish stepdancers, a great back-up band, a variety of traditional religious and modern Irish Christmas tunes. There is something for the whole family at this concert, and it's going to be quite an evening at the Cambridge-Isanti Performing Arts Center. Known as "The Voice of Riverdance," Katie McMahon, Irish singer and harpist, with her band and Irish stepdancers, will be presenting "An Irish Christmas" Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center in Cambridge. For tickets, call the Community Education Office at 763-689-2796. These tickets are for reserved seating and are very reasonably priced at from $14 for premier seating (in the first four rows), $12 in the middle section, and $10 for seating in the back section. Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Katie McMahon's voice has been described as that of an angel's, sounding of "poetry, purity and perfection" (Irish Times). She is from Dublin, Ireland and was classically trained in voice and harp in the Royal Irish Academy of Music. While in the Celtic choir Anuna, her beautiful crystalline voice was noticed by Riverdance composer Bill Whelan and she was asked to sing the solo in "Riverdance," the hugely successful touring show. During her five years with "Riverdance," Katie recorded her first successful solo album, "After the Morning," with members of the Riverdance band. She recently married Minnesota native, Ben Craig, and has settled in Minneapolis. She has also released her second solo CD, "Shine," to great critical acclaim. If you want to hear of a sample of her music, her homepage is at: http://www.katiemcma hon.com.
